About The Team/Project 

The Linux Administrator role will be based within the newly formed Cloud Operations Middleware Team.

The role is a varied one, where you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting the infrastructure for the company’s Middleware platforms such as WebSphere MQ, IBM Workload Scheduler, Connect Direct and SFTP. You will also take responsibility for the already detailed design and understand the automated configuration and build of the Middleware Linux infrastructure. You will be expected to learn the end-to-end complex flows to support the various Middleware and in house application requirements.

You will handle the end-to-end delivery from allocation through to handover of all assigned projects and BAU work. You will be expected to contribute and play a lead role in SME forums and work with colleagues from other teams setting product direction. You will also take a lead role in mentoring and team development with junior colleagues, helping develop their technical skills and overseeing their delivery. Provide strong input on all matters of planning, design, risk management and security in project forums, giving clear direction on items affecting Middleware.

What You’ll Do

• Supporting the existing AWS hosting environment to enable the Middleware technologies to be run effectively.
• Providing technical expertise, support and troubleshooting to various projects.
• Applying a critical focus to security, to ensure full compliance with GDPR and dataset authorisation requirements.
• Carrying out routine preventative maintenance tasks, system checks and regulatory duties to ensure infrastructure health.
• Managing updates and software installations, testing solutions prior to roll out.
• Virtual Machine maintenance and ongoing support.
• Create and maintain procedural documentation and support change management.
• Contributing to the development and implementation of new platform features.

To be successful in this role, your background and experience will include:

• Significant Linux administration experience – Amazon Linux / CentOS / Ubuntu
• Significant experience in AWS with focus on AMI, Cloud formation, EBS and CloudWatch configuration and management
• Infrastructure as Code
• Code Repository Experience – such as GitLab
• Scripting Experience – such as Bash / Python
• Configuration Management
• Agile project management including Jira and Confluence desirable
• DevOps and software development practices
• Google G Suite Education & Experience
• Relevant work experience as a System Administrator working with Linux and AWS based systems.
• Be fluent in English and able to communicate results effectively.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Be able to learn quickly and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Be flexible and able to change priorities at short notice.
• Be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
